There are various methods of measuring leather thickness, commonly used methods include:

1. Leather Thickness Measuring Instrument: The use of a specially designed leather thickness measuring instrument, such as a leather thickness tester. It usually uses the principle of non-contact measurement, by touching the surface of the leather or placing it on top of the leather, using a sensor to measure the thickness of the leather.

2. Manual Measuring Tools: The use of manual measuring tools such as micrometers, vernier calipers or spiral micrometers to obtain results by directly measuring the thickness of the leather. This method requires the operator to manually place the measuring tool in contact with the leather and obtain the thickness measurement by reading a scale or number.

3. Optical measurement method: using optical instruments such as microscope or projector, etc., the thickness of the leather is measured by magnified observation of the cross-section of the leather and by using a measuring scale or image processing software.

4. Acoustic measurement method: using ultrasonic measurement equipment, the thickness of the leather is calculated by transmitting ultrasonic waves into the leather and measuring the time and intensity of reflection or penetration of the waves.

Each of these methods has its own advantages and disadvantages and the appropriate measurement method is selected according to specific needs. Leather thickness gauges are usually the most commonly used option as they provide fast, accurate and non-destructive measurements.
