How do you determine the fineness of cotton fibers?

4. High Volume Instrument (HVI) measurement:
HVI is a standardized method for measuring the properties of cotton fibers, including fineness. The fiber is first cleaned and opened, and then fed into a machine that measures its linear density, strength, and other properties.

Finer fibers are generally considered to be of higher quality, as they are softer, more lustrous, and more uniform in appearance.
