A commonly used instrument for testing the strength of fabrics is a device known as a "Universal Testing Machine" (UTM). The universal testing machine is a machine widely used in testing the mechanical properties of materials. It can test the mechanical properties of different types of materials such as tension, compression, bending, and shearing.

When testing the strength of fabrics, UTM's tensile mode is usually used. The test sample is clamped between two clamps, and gradually increasing tension is applied until the fabric breaks. During the test, the UTM will record the force applied to the sample and the elongation or deformation of the sample in real time.

For the strength test of fabrics, tests such as uniaxial tension, tear strength, and breaking strength can be performed according to different test standards and requirements. These tests can help assess the durability, quality and suitability of fabrics and are important for research and development, quality control and product validation in the textile industry.

Before testing, make sure that the UTM equipment is calibrated and meets the requirements of the test standard. At the same time, the preparation of samples and the selection of fixtures also need to follow the corresponding test standards to ensure the accuracy and repeatability of test results.
