The ASTM standard for the tensile test of fabric is ASTM D5034 - Standard Test Method for Breaking Strength and Elongation of Textile Fabrics (Grab Test). This standard provides a method for determining the breaking strength and elongation of textile fabrics using a grab test procedure.

The ASTM D5034 standard covers woven, nonwoven, and knitted fabrics made from natural or synthetic fibers. It outlines the testing equipment, specimen preparation, testing procedures, and calculations required to perform the grab test.

In the grab test, rectangular specimens of specific dimensions are cut from the fabric and clamped in the jaws of a tensile testing machine. The machine applies a steadily increasing force until the fabric specimen breaks. During the test, the maximum force applied (breaking strength) and the elongation at the point of failure are recorded.

The ASTM D5034 standard is widely used in the textile industry to assess the tensile properties of fabrics, including breaking strength and elongation. It provides a standardized method for comparing the performance of different fabrics and evaluating their suitability for specific applications.
