The main machine used to measure color fastness to rubbing is a crocking color fastness tester (Crockmeter) or a rubbing speed tester. The color fastness to crocking tester is a device specially designed to simulate friction and wear conditions, and is used to evaluate the wear resistance and color stability of materials.

Rubbing color fastness testing machine usually consists of the following main parts:

1. Specimen clamping device: a device used to stably clamp the material to be tested to ensure the safe fixation of the sample during the test.

2. Friction mechanism: including a friction head (friction finger or friction cloth) and a corresponding friction arm or friction rod. Friction heads are usually standardized to ensure consistency and comparability of test results.

3. Weight or load device: used to apply a specific force or load on the surface of the sample to simulate the friction in actual use.

4. Friction motion control equipment: used to control the motion mode of the friction arm or friction rod, such as speed, reciprocating friction times, etc.

The operation steps of the rubbing color fastness testing machine are as follows:

1. Prepare the sample: According to the requirements of the standard, prepare a sample that meets the size specifications, and perform necessary pretreatment, such as washing and drying.

2. Install the sample: Clamp the sample on the sample holding device of the testing machine to ensure that it is securely fixed.

3. Set test parameters: According to the test requirements, set the parameters of the test machine, such as friction force, friction speed, friction times, etc.

4. Conduct the test: start the testing machine, let the friction head (friction finger or friction cloth) contact the surface of the sample, and perform friction movement according to the set parameters.

5. Evaluate the test results: After completing the rubbing motion, check the surface of the specimen for color change and pigment transfer. Using standard reference standards, color change is assessed and a corresponding color fastness to rubbing grade is given.

The results of a crocking machine are usually reported as a grade, or score, which represents the material's resistance to rubbing and color stability. A higher rating indicates that the material has better rub resistance and color stability.

It should be noted that the specifications and parameter settings of the rubbing color fastness testing machine may vary due to different standards and application fields. Individual industries or specific applications may also have custom crocktesters adapted to their requirements.

Overall, the crocking tester is an important tool for evaluating a material's resistance to rubbing and color stability. These tests can help ensure product quality, guide material selection and process improvements to ensure that color changes and fading are reduced in actual use.
