What is the ASTM standard for tensile test of fabric?

ASTM International has developed a series of standards for tensile testing of fabrics. The most common of these are the following two standards:

1. ASTM D5034 - Standard Test Method for Evaluating Tensile Properties of Fabrics and Textiles. This standard covers general tensile testing of fabrics, both uniaxial and multiaxial. It provides methods and requirements for measuring important performance indicators such as maximum tensile strength, breaking strength, elongation, and modulus of fabrics.

2. ASTM D5035 - Standard Test Method for Evaluating the Elastic Behavior of Fabric Knitted Fabrics. This standard describes the method and requirements for measuring the elastic recovery capacity of fabrics during stretching. It involves measuring how much a fabric shrinks after being stretched and its ability to retain its elasticity.

These standards provide consistent test methods and procedures for evaluating the tensile properties of fabrics, ensuring comparability and accuracy of results. Using these standards can help manufacturers, suppliers and consumers understand the mechanical properties of fabrics and ensure that they meet specific technical requirements and performance standards. Note that the standards mentioned above represent a small subset of ASTM standards related to fabric tensile testing, and that ASTM International may update or issue additional relevant standards over time. It is recommended to always refer to the latest ASTM standards when conducting tests.
