Understanding Filtration Efficiency: PFE, BFE, and VFE

3. Viral Filtration Efficiency (VFE): 

 
VFE measures the ability of a filter to capture and inhibit the transmission of viruses through the filtration media. It is determined through a standardized laboratory test using a specific virus strain. VFE is also expressed as a percentage, and it is particularly important in situations where viral transmission needs to be minimized, such as in healthcare environments.
 
It is important to note that each metric evaluates filtration effectiveness based on specific particle sizes and targets (particles, bacteria, or viruses). As a result, the performance of a filtration system or material will vary depending on the intended application and the specific particles or organisms.
 
When selecting or evaluating filtration products, it is critical to consider the appropriate efficiency metric for your specific needs and requirements.
