In the textile dyeing and finishing industry, viscosity is one of the important physical indicators for evaluating the flow characteristics of dye and auxiliary solution. Accurate determination of viscosity is crucial for controlling the production process and ensuring product quality. This article will provide a detailed introduction to the method of using a rotational viscometer to determine the viscosity of textile dyeing and finishing auxiliaries, as well as the relevant technical points.

1. Definition of viscosity
Viscosity is a measure of the resistance generated by relative motion within a fluid. In textile dyeing and finishing, the viscosity of various liquid additives such as dyes, dispersants, and additive solutions directly affects their fluidity and uniformity in production. Therefore, accurate determination of viscosity is a key step in ensuring the stability of dye formulations and process consistency.

2. Measurement method
Rotational viscometer is a commonly used viscosity measuring instrument, which works based on the frictional resistance inside the fluid. When the liquid sample is placed in a rotational viscometer, the rotating rotor will experience resistance in the liquid, which is displayed as a numerical value through the dial on the rotor, reflecting the dynamic viscosity of the liquid.

3. Preparation before measurement
Before conducting viscosity measurements, it is necessary to prepare the sample for processing, prepare the solution, and control the constant temperature conditions.
(1) Liquid additive samples need to be shaken thoroughly before measurement to ensure uniform composition.
(2) For solid additives, it is necessary to prepare a certain concentration of aqueous solution according to actual needs. This step usually follows standard operating procedures to ensure the accuracy and consistency of concentration.
(3) The temperature during the measurement process should be controlled between 20 ° C and 80 ° C, and accurately maintained within a range of ± 0.1 ° C to ensure the accuracy and reproducibility of the measurement results.

4. Detailed explanation of measurement steps
(1) Select the appropriate rotor type and speed based on the estimated viscosity range, so that the measurement range falls between 20% and 80% of the dial to obtain accurate readings.
(2) Carefully pour the sample after constant temperature into the measuring container, avoiding the formation of bubbles, until the liquid level reaches the edge of the conical surface of the container. Insert the selected rotor into the sample, ensuring that the rotor is completely submerged in the liquid, and start the rotational viscometer. Wait for the rotor to reach a stable state and record the reading of the pointer on the dial. Usually, the duration of stable readings should comply with the recommendations in the equipment operation manual. Each sample should be tested at least three times to obtain a stable and reliable average value.

5. Result processing and analysis
Through the above steps, the viscosity of textile dyeing and finishing auxiliaries can be accurately determined, providing important technical support and quality assurance for the production process. Viscosity measurement not only helps optimize the process flow, but also ensures the stability and consistency of the product during production.
