What is an ink abrasion resistance tester, and how does it work?

An ink abrasion resistance tester is an instrument used to test the abrasion resistance of ink when it is subjected to certain loads. The principle is to determine the abrasion resistance of ink by fixing it to the tester and then using various loads (e.g. weights, rubbers, etc.) to simulate contact conditions and record the wear of the ink.

Factors affecting the abrasion resistance of inks?

The factors affecting the wear resistance of inks are many and complex, but it is super simple to consider three perspectives: the ink itself, the printing paper/cardboard and the temperature and humidity of the printing environment.

The abrasion resistance of the ink itself is mainly reflected in the cohesion and adhesion of the ink. When the ink cohesion and adhesion to reduce the abrasion resistance of the ink becomes poor; can use high abrasion resistance UV surface oil to improve wear resistance, and through the adjustment of process parameters or replacement of materials to ensure the adhesion of UV base oil.

Ink abrasion resistance is also affected by the temperature and humidity of the printing environment. Humid weather printing is prone to blurring and de-inking. This is because high humidity causes the specimen to become soft with moisture, and the printing machine must increase pressure. When the ink is transferred to the paper, the font is easily expanded due to the high humidity of the corrugated board, causing printing blurring or de-inking.

In addition to the ink itself, the abrasion resistance of the ink is also affected by the absorbency of the printing paper. If the absorbency of the paper is low, then the absorbency of the ink is also naturally reduced, and ink floating on the surface can easily produce drinking. If you already know that the paper has poor water absorption, then you have to start improving the tile line process.

An ink abrasion tester, usually microcomputer controlled, measures the abrasion resistance of the ink under certain conditions. Typically, a friction plate is rotated on the surface of the ink and the abrasion resistance of the ink is determined by measuring the friction force of the plate. For example, an ink abrasion tester can measure the abrasion resistance of ink under environmental conditions such as high temperature, high humidity, low temperature, and low humidity.
